Pushing Play

Driving,
headlights scan low against the horizon.
It is nightime
And, snow is falling…
Weighty flakes
Drift dreamily across my path
No one on the road but this whirlwind and me…                                                    This could feel like loneliness
But, it isn’t
Instead, I am struck with soft
realization…
I am journeying, with certain purpose
toward a destination
-Waiting for me
And, I am suddenly in love with the snow…
Loving how it quiets the world
and carpets everything beneath it
with a sense of purity
-beautiful stillness
Then, I know it is because
That is how I have come to love you
Not blind to what is blanketed below
But, grateful
for the myriad ways you are an
Unexpected snowstorm
just on the precipice of spring
blowing in as a wonderland
And asking me to
take my time
On this road,
Tread carefully,
Even on familiar byways
But, mindful
Tomorrow will be warmer…

I am reaching over,
to tune my radio to a love song,
Placing one hand at the top
Of my steering wheel
Leaning back
To relax
and focus fully
on the journey…
